Class III+ rapid on the North Fork Payette River
Located in Cascade, Valley County, Idaho (ID), United States (US)
About Howard's Plunge:
The final rapid on the Cabarton run with a great horizon line. There are rocks and a large hole on the right. Enter left of center but stay off the wall on the left (it might try to pull you there if you aren't careful). After the rapid eddy out river left and jump off the cliffs into the wave train at the bottom of the rapid. This is also a good place to take out if you have a kayak to avoid the long paddle to Smith's Ferry.

Class III+
Rapids with moderate, irregular waves which may be difficult to avoid and which can swamp an open canoe. Complex maneuvers in fast current and good boat control in tight passages or around ledges are often required; large waves or strainers may be present but are easily avoided. Strong eddies and powerful current effects can be found, particularly on large-volume rivers. scouting is advisable for inexperienced parties. Injuries while swimming are rare; self-rescue is usually easy but group assistance may be required to avoid long swims. Rapids that are at the lower or upper end of this difficulty range are designated Class III- or Class III+ respectively. (From American Whitewater)
